Component Compatibility Matrix

Cross-reference table for validated equipment combinations across power distribution, cooling systems, rack infrastructure, and monitoring platforms. Updated quarterly with new vendor qualifications.

8 min read Q1 2026

Purpose

The Component Compatibility Matrix provides a validated cross-reference of equipment combinations that have been tested and approved for use within GridCore deployment models. It helps engineering and procurement teams select equipment combinations with confidence, reducing integration risk and avoiding incompatible specifications.

How the Matrix Works

Equipment is organized by system domain (electrical, mechanical, IT infrastructure, monitoring) and further categorized by function within each domain. Each entry includes the manufacturer, model series, firmware/software version (where applicable), and the specific GridCore deployment models and configurations where it has been validated.

Compatibility status is indicated as one of three levels:

  • Validated: Fully tested in the target configuration with documented integration procedures and known-good settings.
  • Qualified: Component specifications meet GridCore requirements, vendor data sheets reviewed, but full integration testing has not been performed. Expected to work based on engineering analysis.
  • Not Compatible: Known incompatibility or limitation identified. Alternative component recommended.

Electrical Equipment

The electrical section covers medium-voltage switchgear, transformers (dry-type and liquid-filled), low-voltage switchboards and panelboards, UPS systems (both static and rotary), automatic and static transfer switches, power distribution units (floor-standing and rack-mounted), and busway systems. Each equipment category includes compatibility notes for specific deployment models and redundancy tiers.

Mechanical Equipment

Mechanical equipment listings include chillers (air-cooled and water-cooled), cooling towers and dry coolers, computer room air handlers and in-row cooling units, pumps and piping accessories, and direct liquid cooling distribution units. Compatibility notes address refrigerant types, glycol compatibility, control protocol support, and physical mounting requirements within modular and skid-based configurations.

IT Infrastructure Equipment

IT infrastructure covers rack systems (standard depth, extended depth, and high-density), containment systems (hot aisle and cold aisle), cable management, rack PDUs with intelligent monitoring, and structured cabling components. Compatibility focuses on dimensional fit within GridCore module and skid designs, power connector compatibility, and monitoring protocol support.

Monitoring and Controls Equipment

Monitoring equipment includes environmental sensors, power meters, leak detection systems, BMS controllers, and DCIM platform software. Compatibility validation covers communication protocol support, sensor accuracy verification, alarm integration testing, and dashboard compatibility with GridCore standard monitoring templates.

Key Insight
The matrix is updated quarterly to reflect new vendor qualifications, firmware updates that affect compatibility, and the addition of new equipment categories. Each quarterly release includes a change log identifying additions, removals, and status changes from the previous version.

Using the Matrix in Procurement

Equipment listed as "Validated" can be specified with confidence. Equipment listed as "Qualified" should include integration testing provisions in the procurement scope. Equipment not listed in the matrix should be submitted for evaluation through the GridCore partner qualification process before being included in project specifications.
